Which Macs does it work on?
It’s designed for MacBooks with a notch: MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch (2021 and later) and MacBook Air 13-inch and 15-inch (M2 and later), on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Apple silicon and Intel.
What about Macs without a notch?
On other Macs and on external displays it floats at the top center of the screen, and you can choose which display it appears on.
Does it show up when I share my screen?
No. It’s hidden from screen sharing and screen recordings, so people on your call see only what you share. If you want it in a recording, set Hide from recordings to Off in the editor.
Does it need the internet?
No. Speech recognition runs on your Mac and the app makes no network connections. macOS may need to download its speech model once: if the app says it can’t listen, turn on Dictation in System Settings › Keyboard.
Does it work in other languages?
It listens in your Mac’s language, using the speech recognition built into macOS. If macOS can’t recognise that language, it listens in US English. A steady scroll doesn’t use speech recognition, so it works with a script in any language.
The text doesn’t move when I talk.
It starts listening once the countdown ends, so nothing you say before then moves the text; set Countdown to Off to skip it. Otherwise, check that Modern MBA Prompter is allowed to use the Microphone and Speech Recognition in System Settings › Privacy & Security, and that Dictation is on in System Settings › Keyboard. If it still can’t listen, click Use a steady speed instead in the editor.
